The 2018 International Conference on Computer, Control, Informatics and its Applications (IC3INA 2018) is the 6th annual conference co-organized by Research Center for Informatics, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). IC3INA is intended to gather researchers, academics, engineers, scholars and practitioners to present recent innovations and developments, and to exchange ideas and progresses in the advanced technologies of computer, control, informatics and its applications. The conference has been approved and co-sponsored by IEEE with the conference no. 44477 .

This year event will be held in ICE-BSD, Tangerang, South of Jakarta, Indonesia on 1-2 November 2018. Previous conferences have been successfully held and the proceedings have been indexed by IEEEXplore (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016,2017)

All papers accepted and presented in IC3INA 2018 will also be forwarded for consideration to be published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

INVITED SPEAKERS

Prof. Hiroshi NAKASHIMA, Ph. D (Kyoto University, Japan)

Title: Six Players in Exa-Scale HPC Games and Beyond

Abstract:
Programming in HPC has its own feature by which our game is clearly distinguished from other games. That is, high-performance is the first priority in our game in which six key players, namely correctness, complexity, parallelism, locality, regularity and productivity, must have roles and skills different from those required in other games. Furthermore, the roles and skills are not steadfast but change as HPC technologies are evolved and emerged. This talk presents HPC-specific features of these six players and the challenge in the training of them in order to win our games in Exa-scale era and beyond.

Title: Development of vision-based and machine learning algorithms for wood identification

Abstract:
Computer vision methods have been widely used in many applications related to visual interpretation and assessments. The vision method is potential to be implemented in wood identification to provide more accurate and objective results. Research Center for Informatics, Indonesia Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and Forest Products Research and Development Center (FORDA) are conducting collaborative research to realise this implementation. The vision-based system for wood identification could provide advantages for many stakeholders, such as wood anatomists, custom services, forensic officers and timber industries. In the current procedure, a wood anatomist with certain experience level needs to observe the wood surface through visual assessment, and then identify wood species based on its surface properties. The proposed method recognises wood species by analysing the wood image as input data. The image is acquired by using smartphone camera and mounted macro lens. The identification capability is built by applying machine learning algorithm to a large wood dataset. By using current technologies on the smartphone camera, it is feasible to acquire and collect wood surface images at high resolution. The image data are accumulated based on its commercial categories, as regulated by the Indonesian government. The wood dataset is initially formed by collecting the wood sample images from Xylarium Bogoriense 1915. To increase the dataset size, wood samples from Indonesian regions are also accumulated by using mobile application. In the end, the smartphone will have two primary functions. Firstly, it can be used as a practical tool by non-anatomist for identifying wood species and secondly, at the same time, the captured image can be added to the wood dataset. The updated dataset might be continuously used to improve the identification capability.
